OFCOM LICENSING
If you utilise a licenced radio system for your business, you must have a current Ofcom licence.
Marconi Radio Communications may apply for an Ofcom licence on your behalf at no extra charge as part of the service we provide to new clients. We also work hard to support and give any radio licence assistance that our current or future customers require.
What kind of driver's licence is best for me?
Simple UK
This licence allows you to operate hand-held or mobile radio equipment anywhere in the United Kingdom. The usage of a base station is not authorised. Simple UK licensees have access to fifteen frequencies over four Business Radio frequency bands and must cooperate with other Simple UK licensees on their own. The charge for a five-year licence is £75.
Simple Site
This licence allows you to utilise a radio system with a base station and mobile stations in a limited region (typically 1 kilometre or less). Radio paging systems are commonly employed on frequencies accessible under this licence class. Simple Site licensees have access to a wide variety of frequencies and must cooperate with other Simple Site licensees on their own. For a period of five years, the licence charge is £75.
Technically Assigned
This is a versatile licence that allows you to utilise a wide range of commercial radio equipment. Licensees can choose from a wide number of frequencies spanning all Business Radio bands, as well as a wide range of coverage regions, ranging from very small (for example, in-building coverage) to very vast (for example, nationwide coverage) (e.g. a county).
Fees for a single channel assignment normally range from £75 to £1480, depending on numerous criteria such as the size of the coverage area and the attractiveness of the frequency band.
Area Defined:
Customers with Area Defined licences have exclusive usage of a frequency over a 50km2 grid square, a county, or the entire United Kingdom. The frequency width, frequency range, and territory covered are used to compute licence payments.
Above 165MHz, the availability of UK-wide channels is highly restricted, thus if you want to get an Area Defined licence, you should verify with us first.
